Printing Steps For This Image

Been working on this print for the last 4 or 5 hours, it is finally starting to look good. This man was a sweet guy, he would drink all day, and sort of be pushed around by those with him, he seemed to be a bit of a lost soul. The alcohol aged him, I need to check my documentary information on him but he was not that old.

I am doing the following to make the print:

1) Basic exposure at 45seconds and Filter 1 1/4 F8 (135mm lens with 4x5 neg).
2) Dodging left eye and eye socket 15 seconds.
3) Dodge the left eye white/pupil area 10 seconds.
4) Dodge the right eye white/pupil area 15 seconds.
5) Burn all 4 corners 10 seconds.
6) Burn bottom 2 inches 20 seconds.
7) Use mask number 1 to burn background 1 minute at Filter 0
8) Use maske number 2 to burn in nose/cheek/forehead and right shoulder 20 seconds at Filter 0.

I am working on my third print now, will raise the initial exposure to 1 1/2 and add the extra dodge on the right eye. I will then bleach and tone all prints before washing them.

Fun stuff!!

Progress is slow but steady on printing the show, I want to have a selection of about 40 different top notch prints which I can then know down to 35 for the show. I will need to push hard over the next weeks to get this done. Running short on photo paper, have another 100 sheets coming in December and January but that might not be enough, might have to order 1 or 2 more 50 sheet boxes. Never enough money, will see how it all goes but need to struggle through this and do it right.

After this show is done I can focus on saving funds for the "Families of the Mae Sot Dump" project. One thing at a time Gerry!!!
